«Archaeoastronomy in Diocletian's Palace in Split (Split, Croatia)»
Presentation at the 25th ALSSA Archaeoastronomy Seminar.(Università Popolare Sestrese, Piazzetta dell'Università Popolare, Genova Sestri, tel. 010-6043247.)
Saturday, 6th May at 11:50 am Marina De Franceschini will present a new study on the astronomical orientation of Diocletian's Palace at Spalato (Split in Croatia).
This discovery stems from the cooperation with
Zlatko Andrijašević, a scholar and researcher from Split, who contacted us after reading our studies on the Arc of Light at the Pantheon.
He suggested that we study together the
illuminations of the Vestibule, an imposing circular hall which is still the fulcrum of the Palace itself. It is decorated with four semicircular niches and covered by a dome with an oculus.
We will present the first results of this research: study of the history of the monument, on site observations and astronomical calculations of Giuseppe Veneziano
In Italian Language.
