Presentation at the 25th ALSSA Archaeoastronomy Seminar.
(Università Popolare Sestrese, Piazzetta dell'Università Popolare, Genova Sestri, tel. 010-6043247.)Saturday, 6th May at 11:50 am Marina De Franceschini w
ill present a new study on the astronomical orientation of Diocletian's Palace at Spalato (Split in Croatia).
This discovery stems from the cooperation with Zlatko Andrijašević, a scholar and researcher from Split
, who contacted us after reading our studies on the Arc of Light at the Pantheon.
He suggested that we study together the illuminations of the Vestibule
, an imposing circular hall which is still the fulcrum of the Palace itself. It is decorated with four semicircular niches and covered by a dome with an oculus.
We will present the first results of this research: study of the history of the monument, on site observations and astronomical calculations of Giuseppe Veneziano
In Italian Language.
