✅ Marina De Franceschini with the archaeoastronomer Giuseppe Veneziano, will give the presentation "The Temple of Amun-Ra in the Kharga Oasis in Egypt", where every year a spectacular hierophany takes place at dawn on April 7 and on September 6th.

✅ On those dates, the Sun's rays illuminate the sanctuary for its whole length, passing through a series of axial doors. They reach the sacellum at the west end of the complex, as happens in the temple of  Abu Simbel also in Egypt. The temple was dedicated to the Theban Triad, consisting of the gods Amon-Ra, Mut and Khonsu.

✅ The sanctuary had a very long life: its construction began in the the sixth century. B.C. under Darius I the Great, who completed the Persian conquest of Egypt. It is the only and largest Persian temple preserved in the region.
The temple was enlarged several times: in the fourth century. B.C. by the pharaoh Nectanebo and in the third century. B.C. by Ptolemy II Philadelphus. In the first century A.D., during the Roman domination, a new gate was added, built by the emperor Claudius or by Vespasian, maintaining the axiality of the complex.

✅ The presentation will reconstruct the history of the Sanctuary and explain the symbolic meaning of solar phenomena, after expanding a previous study of the Author.

‼️ Fascinating and mysterious Egypt
